These are specially designed strip maps, covering the route. The route is marked in heavy red dots, and this, along with the large scale, facilitates route finding. The land for only a short distance on either side of the way is shown.
These maps are an acquired taste. Undoubtedly, they are clear and reduce painful decision-making. You may find they also take away some of your enjoyment of the landscape; you can't use them to give yourself the broader picture, lining up the hilltops around you, for example.
They do however, provide supplementary information to assist you in planning your walk as well as some safety information. The maps are multi-lingual with all text in English, French and German.
This map is only available in a waterproof edition which has a wax/silicon coasting. The maps fold well into the plastic case with which they are provided but they are not tear resistant.

These maps are available in three editions:
Paper - they fold well, and are backed with a reasonably durable laminated cover. They will remain intact, depending on how much wind and rain you have encountered!
Wilderness - laminated, tear resistant and waterproof they are designed for use in wind and rain and should arrive home with you as a permanent souvenir.
Lam-Fold - extra strong lamination with a 'china-graph' write-on, wipe-off surface they are also tear resistant and waterproof. They are however, a little bulkier than the 'wilderness' version.

The Wilderness Edition maps are a good compromise between the paper maps that are likely to self-destruct in the wind, rain, sleet & snow and the
heavier duty Lam-Fold Editions.

Use the Harvey map for route finding but take along either the OS Landranger 50,000 or Explorer 25,000 maps in the Wilderness edition as well for detailed navigation or to spread out while you're having a picnic or savouring a view.
